OurHistory
One client in 1934. More than 75 million people today*.
Janus Henderson’s history of helping people invest in a brighter future together reflects more than 90 years of bringing together insight-led investing, innovative ideas, global perspectives, and a consistent focus on client partnership.
Founded in London in 1934
The Henderson Administration was founded in 1934 following the death of Sir Alexander Henderson, a London financier known for pioneering investments in railways, shipping, and emerging technologies. The firm later became Henderson Global Investors, a global asset manager based in London.
Established in Denver in 1969
Janus Capital was founded in 1969 when Tom Bailey believed that the asset management industry could benefit from a firm ‘west of Wall Street’, and established his company in Denver, Colorado.
Stronger together in 2017
The two like minded firms merged to form Janus Henderson Investors, united by a shared belief in partnership, innovation, and insight-led investing.
The next chapter in 2026
Janus Henderson became a private company, partnering with strategic investors including Trian Fund Management and General Catalyst. This marked an evolutionary step, enabling the firm to reimagine asset management in an era increasingly shaped by innovation, while staying focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for clients.
Today, Janus Henderson continues to build on its heritage, helping clients invest in a brighter future together.
